There are those who get all of the excitement that they need out being curled up with a good book and a nice cup of cocoa. Then there are those who aren’t happy unless they’re experiencing a truly ridiculous, white-knuckle thrill ride! Roller coasters are one of those things that you’re always going to either love or totally hate. For those who don’t enjoy them, there’s no force on earth that will get them into one of those seats, but for those who do, there’s nothing quite like in the world! If you’re the kind of person who can’t get enough of loops, inversions, and high-speed drops, here are some of the very best rollercoasters in the world that you have to try!

The Smiler

The UK is able to boast a pretty serious assortment of theme parks and roller coasters, but few are as iconic as Staffordshire’s Alton Towers. There have been plenty of amazing coaster at Alton Towers, but for pure thrills, nothing beats The Smiler. Why? One word: inversions. The Smiler has Fourteen of them. That’s right, fourteen! That’s the record for most inversions on any roller coaster in the world. Of course, you may find that after that adrenaline rush you need to head back to your Alton Towers accommodation and recover. Of course, it’s worth noting that the smiler was involved in a pretty serious accident a couple of years ago. A good reminder that any coaster comes with risks.

The Beast

With a name like The Beast, you know it’s gotta be good! It first opened in the late seventies, and The Beast is still the longest wooden coaster in the world. With a ridiculously tall initial drop and a ride that lasts for a whopping four minutes! For those who feel like the thrill of a coaster ride is always a little bit too short, this one might well be perfect.

Takabisha

Takabisha, in Fuji-Q Highland Park, Japan might be the fastest or longest coaster on this list, but it has one truly great thing going for it: the drop. The 121-degree max vertical angle drop is enough to leave just about anyone breathless. What it lacks in overall speed, it more than makes up for with that amazing opener!

Formula Rossa

There’s one thing that most people want from a coaster above just about anything else: speed. And Ferrari World Park’s Formula Rossa delivers on that spectacularly. It clocks in at an insane 149 miles per hour and is long enough that you’re going to be feeling that speed for quite a while. It’s tough to feel like you’re getting your money’s worth on some coasters, but Formula Rossa definitely doesn’t have that problem!

Of course, these are far from all of the best coasters in the world. Not only are there ones out there that are just as exciting, but there are plenty that have loads to offer without being quite as scary. Things like light shows, water effects, and even virtual reality mean that there’s a roller coaster out there to leave just about anyone feeling the thrill!
