My Mermaid Lagoon – Marina’s Lagoon

04/09/2017

Mermaid Lagoon Interplay

Little Miss C is still very much of the age where she loves making small worlds and role playing with them. Often I will find shoe boxes, or other things stolen from the cardboard recycling, full of soil, sand or small pieces of paper to represent some sort of a landscape and then tiny crafted things to represent houses and other household things. Fairies, mermaids, horses and unicorns seem to feature prominently in them at the moment and so being asked to review My Mermaid Lagoon from Interplay was perfect timing.

Mermaid Lagoon gives you everything you need to create a magical world for Marina and her dolphin friend. The set comes with a display base, a clear top for the display base, Marina, her dolphin friend (and a stand for the dolphin), a clamshell for Marina to live in, magic sand, a trident for Marina, 4 different sand moulds, 4 coral plans and a little activity book.

Little Miss C instantly set about creating her little mermaid world for Marina with enthusiasm. It’s a relatively simple thing to do, I just made sure that she didn’t spill too much of the magic sand when putting it in the base of the lagoon. The rest of it was her own work entirely.

As an adult, the thing that I really liked about this Mermaid Lagoon was the fact that once LMC had finished making it you can simply put the clear plastic lid on and you don’t get any sand falling out and nothing in the lagoon is disturbed at all. It also means that Master C can’t go and destroy it quite so easily!

My Mermaid Lagoon would make the perfect gift for any little mermaid fans. Aged 7, LMC found this a doddle to put together and play with, but I think it would appeal to any children aged about 5 upwards. Slightly younger children may also enjoy it, but it does need a certain level of find motor skills to be able to put it together without help. It is a lovely set though which children can then add to with little keepsakes and treasures of their own. Made up it also acts as a lovely decoration on a child’s bedroom shelf or windowsill.
