We all need a good night’s sleep, and your kids are no exception. Having to deal with cranky moods and behavior issues when they are tired is no easy task. Of course, getting them to go to bed isn’t easy either. However, we are here to help. In this article, we have put together five ways in which you can help your child get a better night’s sleep. Follow these tips, and you might even get to bed on time too!

Keep your kids active

After a long day at school, the last thing your kids want to do is exercise. Watching tv and playing video games may be a more attractive proposition. While you shouldn’t stop them from resting, studies have shown that a little bit of physical activity will tire them out ready for bedtime. You might want to go for a walk together as a family after mealtime, or you could encourage your children to spend some time in the garden. They do deserve a break, so don’t withhold tv privileges for long, but some activity will be beneficial.

Avoid technology

We have already looked at useful technology in helping us to get a better night’s sleep. However, for the hour or so before your children go to bed, some items should be put away. Tablet, smartphones, and laptops emit a blue light that can disrupt sleep patterns. Exposure to tv before bedtime can also cause problems, as some programs and films can cause nightmares which will disturb the sleep cycle. You should turn the bedroom into a non-technology zone for young children, so they won’t be able to touch anything that will distract them from going to sleep.

Change the bedding

None of us like to sleep on an uncomfortable bed, but children are less likely to adapt than we are. The bed needs to be as comfortable as possible to stimulate a good night’s sleep. Have a look at the foam options at eFoam. From pillows to mattresses, they can provide the bedding your child needs to get a better night’s sleep. Be sure to change up the bed sheets too. Some bedding can cause itching and overheating, so opt for low-allergen cotton sheets for a more comfortable night.

Be careful with food

There are some foods you should not give your children before bedtime. These include anything with high sugar content which is guaranteed to turn your kids hyper. The following foods are known to aid sleep, so instead of letting your child go hungry before bed, consider some of these tasty treats. You may also consider sampling some of them to aid your sleep pattern.

Make bedtime enjoyable

Don’t just send your kids to bed while you relax downstairs. Spend time with them, have a cuddle and tell them a story. Children will go to sleep when they feel relaxed, so do what you can to simulate a peaceful environment. When your children look forward to going to bed, you know you have done something right. You will also enjoy the bonding time you spend with them.
