I Need a Wee – Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet

13/03/2015

I need a wee

In my opinion Sue Hendra is quite simply one of the best picture book authors there is. So many of her books (Keith The Cat with the Magic Hat, No-Bot, Doug The Bug That Went Boing!, Supertato to name but a few) have been huge hits in this house and I know that as soon as I open I new one the kids will jump on it straight away.

I Need a Wee has to be a brilliant title for a book. It’s a phrase that every child shouts regularly and when Little Miss C managed to read the title for herself she just laughed out loud. Like so many children, Alan needs a wee, but he’s just too busy to go to the toilet straight away. There’s a helter-skelter to go on, balloons to get and cake to eat, but then when he does finally get to the toilet there’s a massive queue!

With Alan’s continued shouts of “I need a wee” we follow him round as he tries to find somewhere to have his much needed wee. He even finds himself on stage taking part on a toy dancing competition. He’s dancing around so much by then as he needs a wee so badly that he hardly notices!

I need a wee is just pure genius and really will have both children and adults laughing out loud. All parents have been in this sort of situation with their little ones and children themselves will also recognise Alan’s need for a wee and how easy it is to be distracted when you really should be going straight to the toilet.

There’s no doubt that this book is just perfect for any child who’s ever uttered that well known line “I need a wee”!
