My Amazing Dad – Ross Collins

07/06/2014

Father’s Day is fast approaching (15th June this year here in the UK) and so it’s the perfect time for children to find a book to share with their dad and to help them realise just what makes their Dad so special. My Amazing Dad is exactly that book.

Snip the crocodile isn’t too sure what his dad does all day. His best friend Max’s dad swings through the jungle. Stripe the zebra’s Dad is the best at hiding. Trunkle the elephant’s dad can spray water higher than the tallest trees. Max, Stripe and Trunkle all want to be like their dads when they grow up. But what about Snip and his dad? Is he the best at anything? What does he actually do all day? Snip’s not too sure and also doesn’t know if he wants to be like him when he grows up or not.

Worried that everyone else has a cooler dad than him, Snip goes home and asks his mum exactly what it is that his dad does all day. Wrapping a protective tail around him (exactly as she did when he was still in his egg) mum takes Snip to see exactly what it is that his dad gets up to all day. And Snip suddenly realises that his dad is amazing after all. In fact, he’s the most amazing dad there is.

My Amazing Dad is a lovely, lovely heart warming book and a perfect story for a child to share with their dad for father’s day. It’s a sweet story and the illustrations are adorable, with lots of details that Little Miss C was pointing out and asking questions about. The book also helped to reinforce with her the different skills of all the animals and was a great starting point for lots of animal bases discussion too.
