It's hard to believe that it's over a year since I received a digital postcard from the amazing Team Honk girls (Annie, Tanya and Penny) when they went to Ghana to see the fantastic work that Comic Relief were doing over there.
This week the three of them sprang a bit of a surprise on us when they announced that they were all at Heathrow about to fly off to Tanzania to see the #lastingchange that Comic Relief were helping to put in place there for some inspirational woman.
Today, Saturday 8 March, is International Women's Day 2014 and it's therefore appropriate to see how Comic Relief are supporting amazing women in Tanzania and helping them to build their own businesses, and in turn supporting not only their families, but whole communities thanks to your donations to Team Honk. You've already seen what we've got up to locally here in St Albans, so here's the other end of the fund-raising process.
This is Forestiana and she's a wine processor who has gone from making 20 litres of wine a month to 250 litres after receiving help from The Gatsby Trust in Tanzania. They have helped teach her vital business skills, given her technical training and mentoring, and most importantly given her the confidence to think big and plan her business' growth. With their help she has also improved her family's quality of life and she also now employs two others, in turn helping their families. Forestiana is also using what she has learnt to help train and support other local business women.
What Penny, Tanya and Annie have seen in Tanzania and shared with us over social media has been so inspirational. The women that Comic Relief are helping there are making such a difference, not only to their families, but to their communities and even wider still. On International Women's Day to think about women like Forestiana and what they are doing is so very inspiring. There is real #lastingchange rippling out across Africa and it's thanks to your donations. If you haven't donated yet there's still time – just pop along to the Team Honk St Albans donations page.
There are also three other women I know that are making #lastingchange - Tanya, Annie and Penny. What they've done for Team Honk and Comic Relief is like nothing I've seen before in blogging circles. I'll end this post therefore by handing over to the women themselves in Tanzania.
Thanks for all your support for Team Honk.
