Honk Honk! Baa Baa! & Time for Bed – Petr Horacek

16/07/2013

It's nearly a couple of years now since I discovered Petr Horacek after happening across a copy of Silly Suzy Goose
in a local charity shop. All three of us really enjoyed it and I've been keeping an eye out for more of his books ever since.
I was delighted when we were sent a couple of new books in the Baby Walker series and I've been saving these to enjoy with Master C. It's really only been in the last couple of weeks that he's started to enjoy snuggling up together with a book and from what I can tell he's really enjoying it. After his bedtime milk he actively reaches out to the shelf where we keep his books, eager for that night's story.
In Honk, Honk! Baa, Baa! each page shows you one animal and the noises they make. As you go through the book the pages get smaller (making it easy for little hands to turn over just one page at a time – a lovely feature as Master C gets as excited about turning the page as he does the rest of the book!) and the final picture of the cow is made up some of the pictures on the previous pages.

Time for Bed is the perfect book for introducing Master C to the idea of a bedtime routine in a book. Starting off with "time to play" the book then works through tidying up, having supper, bathtime, teeth brushing and a story before saying goodnight. Again the pages get smaller in size making it easy for him to "help" turn them. This time the overlapping pages make up the boy's quilt pattern on the final page – a really nice touch.

I love sharing books with my children and it's been such a pleasure to be able to start this book journey with Master C and these Petr Horacek books really have been an excellent starting point.

Disclaimer: We were sent copies of Honk Honk! Baa Baa! and Time for Bed for the purposes of this review.
