I was thrilled to see a mention on Being a Mummy's blog about the Johnson's Wipe out Waste campaign to recycle the plastic packs that baby wipes come in. They've even put together a lovely little video showing how the scheme works.
I admit that it would be even better for the environment if you used reusable baby wipes, but sadly that just doesn't work for us and at least this provides a way to recycle something that I would otherwise be putting in landfill. The only problem I see with the scheme is that the T&Cs state that the scheme only runs until the end of December 2012. Better than nothing, but I would far prefer it if there was a long-term way of recycling these.

I was really excited to hear about this initiative- they need to be shouting it from the rooftops!

Totally agree! Are they planning any big push? And what about the recycled things that they create? Would love to hear more bout them. Bearing in mind I actually use their wipes (99p from a certain place on St Peters Street!) Im keen to recycle where possible.

Not only do disposable wipes create more landfill waste, they also pose an additional environmental threat by introducing human waste into the landfills. Nearly 5 million tons of untreated human waste end up in landfills every year.

Recycling is one way of saving Mother Earth. I admire this project of Johnson’s company; it will not only save our environment but also will help some charities. I will surely participate on this one.

There are also some commercially available environmentally friendly baby wipes around that use plant fiber and are free of synthetic chemical additives – and they aren’t all that more expensive.

Please name brands as all the ones I have looked at have been prohibitively expensive. Thanks.
