Nine months ago Little Miss C and I arrived home together for the first time and since then we've been on quite a roller-coaster ride together. I'm not sure that I'm "qualified" enough to call myself "mummy" yet even though on paper that's what I am. It's strange how you come home from the hospital with a new title and yet no experience at all in your new job.
In nine months I've certainly learnt a lot though:
- As soon as my backside hits the sofa LMC will always either wake up or require attention – I'm pretty sure she implanted some sort of sensor in there as I gave birth to her!
- On the nights where I'm most tired are the ones where she will wake up regularly. The nights where Mr C offers to do any middle of the night feeds there won't be any.
- LMC will without fail find anything that you have accidentally left out and ignore all the toys that you carefully laid out for her to play with.
- When offered food she will quite happily ignore it before placing very other object in her reach in her mouth.
- When you want half an hour to sit down with a cuppa she will refuse to nap, but when you need to go out somewhere she will sleep for hours.
- Putting LMC in the car seat or buggy to go out is nearly always a cue for a dirty nappy to be produced.
There are some great unknowns still which I'm guessing I'm still to learn. How to actually get calpol into a baby is one of life's great mysteries. I'm also looking forward to the day where she actually wants to stay in the house. At the moment it still seems that mummy and home are two of the most boring things imaginable and hence going out is often the easiest thing to do. I don't think I ever realised just how many miles I would walk with the buggy just to get out of the house!
Honestly, I think its like kids have a special behaviour switch for dads. Really though, once you are drowning in a sea of Lego and Little People going for a 3 hour walk will seem fabulous… X
You are so right there – as soon as Mr C returns home she’s all full of smiles! I think I just bore her to be honest with you!
I can’t help with advice on babies that wake up at night time because my two were terrible but you can get special dosing spoons for medicine and I couldn’t have survived without mine.
That little Miss C looking pretty adorable!
