Years ago (circa 1997) I used to buy cross stitch magazines as if they were going out of fashion. At some point whilst moving house at a later date I took out all the patterns that I liked and thought I might actually sew at some point in the future. I still have a whole ring binder full of these and last week vaguely remembered one pattern that I thought may work as something to go on the nursery wall.
A good rummage in the attic and hey presto here it is! Ten in the bed is a lovely pattern and should look good on the wall whether Baby C is a boy or a girl.
A quick trip to good old John Lewis and I've got the aida and most of the thread that I need (how can they have sold out of black embroidery thread?) and I'm ready to go. Fingers crossed that it doesn't take more than four months to complete!

Obviously black’s the new red, or something! I know that DMC make a big hoo-hah about the size of the order so shops can’t just order half a dozen colours that they’re getting low on, so perhaps Anchor are the same. It’s a lovely chart anyway, and shouldn’t be too difficult by the look of things. The one I’m doing right now changes colour every other square in places – sends me loopy!
I’ve still got a lovely teddies x-stitch picture which I sewed when my 3 were tiny, and it hung in the Nursery for years. I can remember doing my x-stitch when they were in the bath together, and them saying, “Can we get out now mummy?” and I would say, “Yes, in a minute – let me just do this bit!” until they were wrinkled like prunes when they got out!

I could understand a small independent shop having run out of some colours, but John Lewis???
Ive got another cross-stitch project thats on the go at the moment (and has been on the go for a few years now!) which has loads of colour changes and the bits Ive got left to do are all in pale colours (creams, off white, light grey etc) all on a white background. Very hard to do with artificial light in the evenings. I must get it finished though as its been on the go for so long.

I can’t get used to calling it ‘aida’. For me it’s still binca, as we called it in school.
I only tried a cross stitch kit once. I didn’t even finish sorting the strands before I threw it on the fire! Not for me. I don’t have that sort of patience, although I’ll knit and crochet for hours on end.
I like the teddies…
