Apologies for the blogging break. Returning to work has sucked me into the corporate world (not a nice place) for this last week or so and finding time to do anything else has been a tad difficult.
Following the comments back on my question about identifying things in the garden I've decided to follow Mrs Nesbitt's suggestion and see if anyone reading this can help.
So, question number one. All around the edge of the decking and the steps up to the decking is this.
A few people seem to think that it may be related to a strawberry plant, but no one is totally sure. I realise that there is some grass and bind weed growing amongst it as well, but when we first moved here we found some small, very bright yellow flowers on it too. All the flowers seem to have now disappeared and annoyingly the photos of them seem to have vanished from the camera memory card as well.
Up close the leaf looks like this.
Any ideas gratefully received!

I know it’s a long link…but I’m certain your plant is creeping cinquefoil (Potentilla reptans). It’s considered a weed, but I think it’s pretty where you have it as long as you don’t let it spread into the garden or lawn, as it puts out runners.
Hope this helps.

That’s the one! Thank you Rattling on. Great to have a “diagnosis” at last.
Where it is at the moment is at the edge of the lawn so I think it’s going to have to go. Shame in a way as it is quite pretty, but Mr C’s got grand plans for the lawn!
Thanks again!

oh, and there was me thinking it was alpine/wild strawberries

Sadly not something as “exciting” as that – but I too was hopeful for a while!
