It's funny how sometimes lots of things happen which appear to be completely independent, but then you stand back and look at them and realise that actually they fit together perfectly. So, where to start with this tale? Let's start with Team Honk. If you've been online at all for the last few months then you can't have missed this amazing achievement by bloggers from all over the country. On Sunday the epic relay from Lands End to John O Groats ended and yesterday there was the amazing news that the combined Team Honk efforts have raised over £30,000 for Sport Relief. In early ... read more
Digital Postcard from Tanzania #lastingchange #iwd2014
It's hard to believe that it's over a year since I received a digital postcard from the amazing Team Honk girls (Annie, Tanya and Penny) when they went to Ghana to see the fantastic work that Comic Relief were doing over there. This week the three of them sprang a bit of a surprise on us when they announced that they were all at Heathrow about to fly off to Tanzania to see the #lastingchange that Comic Relief were helping to put in place there for some inspirational woman. Today, Saturday 8 March, is International Women's Day 2014 and it's therefore appropriate to see how Comic ... read more
Save the Children Ending Newborn Deaths Campaign
When at the Save the Children Bloggers Conference earlier this month there was one particular star guest that I was very keen to hear from - Gemma Raby, one of the midwives from the fantastic Channel 4 series One Born Every Minute. Gemma has been working with Save the Children for a while now and as part of this work last year went out to Liberia to see the work done by midwives there and the difference that Save the Children was making for babies and their mothers. I have two children. Both born in the hospitals of my choice and both times I was given excellent care by the NHS and their ... read more
Save the Children Bloggers Conference
Last Saturday saw me once again leave the children with Mr C and head into London on the train for another blogging event. This time I was headed to the Save the Children bloggers conference at their offices near Farringdon station. Save the Children have held these conferences for a few years now, and are a worldwide charity that I'm sure pretty much everyone has heard of, but if I'm totally honest I only really became aware of the work that they were doing with bloggers when I got to know DorkyMum during her time living in Harpenden. Chats with Ruth really opened my eyes ... read more
Team Honk, the Mayor of St Albans and her Sport Relief Onesie!
Introducing the Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Annie Brewster If there's one thing I've learnt with blogging it's to expect the unexpected. And that was certainly very true on Tuesday when the Team Honk blogger relay came to St Albans. After something of a sleepless night, Tuesday morning saw the usual nerves that come with helping to organise something like this. What if it rained? What if the Mayor forgot to show up? What if the baton was late? What about if something happened to one of the school kids taking part? What if the local paper came and yet there was nothing to photograph? ... read more
Team Honk is coming to St Albans
I've been planning to write this post for over a month now. I've been wanting to tell you all about our exciting plans for the bloggers of St Albans to do their bit towards raising money for Sport Relief. But, to be totally honest with you I've been so busy wrapped up in organising it all that I've just not had time. There are only 36 hours left now before it's our turn on the Team Honk stage, so without further ado I guess I'd better tell you what we're up to. It's nearly a year to the day since I told you all about Team Honk - the amazing team of three bloggers that formed to raise money for ... read more
Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day
Be prepared for your eyes to be hurt tomorrow - in the nicest possible way of course. Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day is back (Friday 13th December) and this year it's going to be bigger than ever! The idea is simple - get into the Christmas spirit by wearing your best bit of festive knitware and donate a pound to Save the Children to help support the wonderful work that they do for children around the world. I had big plans for either buying myself a perfect Christmas jumper that sat perfectly between retro cringeworthy and cool or even making myself something a bit special. ... read more
