It's only the first Monday in November, but it seems that now that Halloween is out of the way everyone's attentions have now turned to Christmas. A certain supermarket chain even had a tree up just inside their entrance when I visited this morning!
I personally love Christmas and it's exciting to see how Little Miss C is going to react to it all this year, now that she's that bit older and also now that she's got the whole build up to it at pre-school. I was intrigued to be asked if I wanted to receive a review copy of Christmas by Dick Bruna as it is a book that I was nt at all familiar with.
Bruna is of course best known for his Miffy books, but I also had the pleasure of reviewing one of his reissued titles recently, The School, and it was lovely to see how is iconic style also worked in other books. In Christmas we get to see Bruna's unique style applied to the Christmas story.
This Christmas book was first published in 1963 and this year they have released a special gold and white edition to mark the book's 50th anniversary. This edition also includes an integral ribbon bookmark with an cut-out Bruna angel attached. It really would make a beautiful gift for Christmas.
The book itself also tells the Christmas story in a beautifully simple manner, making it ideal for young children for whom this may be their first real exposure to the story.
Disclaimer: We were sent a copy of Christmas for the purposes of this review.
