I was delighted to see this message when I opened the front door this evening.
It seems like an age ago that I ordered by seeds via the BBC Dig In website after hearing about it on Gardeners' World. A shame that it took them so long to arrive, but I'm just glad that they are here.
There's a useful little booklet accompanying the seeds that tells you exactly what to do with them. Sadly I think that when we get our garden in July it will be a little late to plant anything this year (mainly as we'll have to actually dig the beds first) but fingers crossed that I can be there right at the beginning of the next season.

You got in before they ran out!
July might seem a bit late in the season, but lettuce and beetroot would be fine to direct sow at that point, you just harvest them a bit later. Lettuce especially can be sowed every two or three weeks or so to keep the supply coming until the winter frosts come along and nuke the lot.
Squash and tomatoes you could about get away with planting out then, but you would need to have started the seeds off in little pots behind glass. Fun to do, but I suspect that’s the sort of fragile clutter you could entirely do without if you’re trying to move house.
You might get away with baby carrots by early autumn, but growing them in some old bucket would probably be safer.

I thought about sewing a few things now and trying to transport them with us, but started to think that it may not be practical. I also don’t think that we’ll be in a fit state to start sewing stuff at the end of July either. There are no veg beds as yet, so we’ll have to decide where we’re going to put them and actually do so before we’re in a position to start growing anything in the ground. I may see if there are a few things I can start in tubs first, but realistically it may well be autumn before I’m ready. So I may have to start looking ahead and planning for the next year’s worth of growing. Just feeling a bit in limbo at the moment – ready to start, but unable to do so quite yet!
