I love reading and I also love telling others about good books that I've discovered and sharing them around. Last Saturday was a fantastic day for new books though.
Firstly Mr C and I went to visit my mother-in-law and I took with me some books that I'd read to pass on to her. In exchange she presented me with a pile of books that she had picked up – a mix of charity shop finds and ones that she's read for the local book group that she attends.
After a quick cuppa Mr C and I then walked into Harpenden to do a spot of shopping. Of course no trip to the shops is complete without a thorough investigation as to what the local charity shops have got (and I was also dropping off a few books that I've read and already passed on to as many people as possible). I found some real book treasure though on this trip.
In addition to a Jodi Picoult that I hadn't read before (Salem Falls) I also managed to find two Sebastian Faulks books that I'm really looking forward to reading (On Green Dolphin Street and Engleby). The second shop provided some Alexander McCall Smith delights. I first read one of the The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency series books earlier this year and really enjoyed the style and pace. I was therefore thrilled to find three more from the series sat on the shelf together in one charity shop (The Full Cupboard of Life, Blue Shoes and Happiness and The Kalahari Typing School for Men). All I need to do now is try to read them in the correct order, and hopefully find a copy of the first in the series which I still haven't read!
