They don't exactly look dangerous do they? A pair of toddler shoes in a bright red and a size five and a half. Yet yesterday they were the reason behind a dash to the emergency Doctors before closing. Little Miss C didn't fall over in them, nor did my inability to see my own feet cause me to trip over them when she left them lying around. Oh no - nothing that straight forward. Instead I managed to sprain my wrist whilst fastening the buckle on them. Yep, you read that right - a sprained wrist caused by fastening my daughter's shoes. You honestly couldn't make this up. After ... read more

Back to basics
I've been doing a lot of thinking about this blog since I returned from last week's BlogCamp. May will be the four year anniversary for Being Mrs C and in that time my life, and this blog, have changed a huge amount. In May 2008 I had not long since returned from a fantastic month long honeymoon in which I travelled the world and had the perfect opportunity to think about what was important in life. I was still working, but if I'm honest I wasn't really enjoying what I was doing. A year or two before I had discovered online discussion forums full of like minded ... read more

Fifty things to do before you’re 11 3/4!
After my recent post about how we should be allowing our children to explore the outdoors more to help them to connect with nature I was delighted to hear on the radio news this morning about the National Trust's new Fifty things to do before you're 11 3/4 campaign. If you're not seen this on today's news then let me tell you a little about the campaign. The idea is to encourage children to put down their computer games and step away from their TV sets and instead embrace the great outdoors. They have come up with a list of fifty activities for children to try with ... read more
Set our children free!
You frequently hear people talking about how children of today don't play outside enough. Older generations often use the "in my day" phrases when telling of children only bothering to come home when they knew a meal would be on the table and then spending the rest of their time climbing trees and exploring for miles around where they lived. The reality is that a lot has changed since "those days". Neary every home now has a TV set and many childrens have one in the bedroom too. There are also games consoles and handheld games which children like to spend time on too. ... read more
Bekonscot Model Village and Railway
Mr C has chosen the most perfect week to have off work this week; day after day of unseasonably warm weather and extra long sunny days following the clock change last weekend. Days like these are designed for old fashioned family days out and that's exactly what we did today. Bekonscot Model Village and Railway is in the lovely Buckinghamshire town of Beaconsfield, just off the M40; only about 40 minutes from St Albans. Originally started in 1929 the model village contains pretty much everything you can imagine - shops, houses, sports fields, boating lakes, harbours, a mine, a zoo, a ... read more
Hands and Feet
Little Miss C is now at that development stage where she's starting to understand that you can actually draw things, rather than just scribble on a page. As well as coming up with lots of requests for Mr C and I to draw specific animals for her she's also drawing "things" and telling us that they're elephants or cats complete with head, body and legs. One thing that she is loving at the moment is an idea that I found in a children's magazine recently - drawing round body parts. She spends ages asking me to help her draw round her hands and feet onto pieces of plain ... read more
