Cooking With Cannabis- The Ultimate Guide For First-Time Home Chefs

06/01/2021

As weed gains extensive popularity for its wellness benefits, users are enthusiastic to try it in different forms. Cannabis products have become all the more popular right now as people look up to them for alleviating pandemic stress. The best thing about weed is that you can get creative with it, rather than just pick ready-made stuff from stores. There is plenty of scope for experimentation with edibles if you are an aspiring home chef. Here is the ultimate guide to follow as you create culinary delights with cannabis.

Consider your objective

When you cook with cannabis, there is always an objective that motivates you, and the choice of the strain depends on it. For example, you will have to decide whether you are looking only for buzz or want therapeutic benefits. A strain that offers the psychoactive effect of THC is ideal for the buzz-seekers, while one high in CBD is the apt choice for therapy. Before you start, consider why you want to cook and what you expect from the recipe.

Figure out dosages accurately

After choosing the right strain, you need to calculate the accurate doses of cannabis to use in the recipe. It enables you to estimate the final value of CBD and THC that goes into a single serving. It can be quite a task for newbies, but dosage calculation is essential for responsible use of cannabis edibles. Ideally, you should stick to only one strain per infusion to make things simple and avoid getting too much from the edible or beverage.

Know the recipe well enough

For any first-time home chef trying to cook with weed, knowing the recipe well enough is the right place to start. You may be tempted to experiment with ingredients and recipes, but it is wise to start with simple recipes and read them thoroughly before you get down to work. For more complex ones like how to make honey oil, you may consider trying once you are comfortable with strains, quantities, and measurements. It may take some practice with grinding and heating for the recipe, but the results can be wonderful with little work.

Decarboxylate like an expert

A beginner can easily skip the decarboxylation step for the cannabis flower, but it will deprive you of the intense and enhanced effects. Masterchefs recommend heating weed up to 295°F for 30 to 60 minutes to activate CBD and 240°F for the same time for THC activation. Stay within this temperature range for the best results when decarboxylating the flower.

Seek advice from a seasoned chef

Cooking with cannabis can get tricky, particularly when you aren’t a culinary specialist. You can seek guidance from a seasoned chef or check some recipes online if you do not know someone who regularly works with weed in the kitchen. Your dispensary budtender may also have some valuable inputs regarding the selection of strains and their dosing and temperatures.

Trying your hand at cannabis recipes can be an incredible experience, but you need to be careful about weights and measurements. Also, pick only quality weed from a reputable source to cook delicious and aromatic edibles.
