5 Science-Backed Stress-Busting Ideas To Try In The New Year

22/01/2021

The pandemic year was a stressful one. Even as we step into the New Year, the stress is probably not going anywhere because the virus is still at large. While the vaccine rollouts are on track, and you can expect relief within the next few months, there is still a need to fight the pandemic blues. Things are far from normal, and a lot is going to change in the new normal. Thankfully, you have lots of options when it comes to dealing with anxiety naturally. Here are some science-backed stress-busters you can try in the New Year.

Get moving quickly

Quick bursts of movement can do wonders for an anxious body and mind because it gets your heart rate up and speeds up the release of feel-good hormones. You end up feeling the perk in your mood, while the sudden burst of energy augurs well for your muscles. It could be anything you enjoy, from a dozen pushups or sit-ups or simply jumping twenty times. The best thing is that you can indulge in these short sessions anytime and anywhere, even at work right in the middle of a jam-packed day.

Meditate or just breathe deeply

Stress works differently on everyone, so busting it is different as well. You may not benefit from a quick burst of activity, but meditation and deep breathing may be the best ways to reset your mood. Just relax, find a quiet corner, sit and breathe consciously. You will feel the burden lifting off. You can also practice meditation and master the technique over time. Till then, deep breathing will suffice.

Try weed for anxiety-relief

The legalization of weed has made people see it from a different perspective, and scientific studies support the claims. It works as a natural anxiety aid that isn’t addictive and has no side effects as long as you stick to a safe dosage. Consider vaping for quick relief and choose strains that specifically alleviate stress. Ensure that you have extra vape batteries because running out of them may stress you out. It is the last thing you will want to happen if already struggling with anxiety.

Take a bath

Surprisingly, soaking in a bathtub or taking a hot shower can work wonders on your body and mind. When you bathe, the body temperature changes, and your senses slow down. It is much like rebooting a computer that is overloaded and getting it back working optimally.  Adding a few drops of essential oils like rose or sandalwood to the bath can make you feel even better.

Go on a cleaning spree

The New Year is the best time to clean and declutter. While it will make your home beautiful, a cleaning spree will also clear your mind by purging the negative emotions. Just pick a corner and get started with the scrubbing and shining. You will feel relaxed, and the stress will be gone by the time you are done.

Fixing your mood with these easy-breezy stress-busting ideas is easier than you imagine. You will surely enjoy them too, so go ahead and get started!
