How much time do you spend in your living room?
Our lounges are often the place in our homes that we spend most of our waking lives. This space is one of the most important in our home.
Your living room needs to be many things; comfortable and cozy in the winter, spacious in the warmer months, and relaxing all year around.
Here are six great tips for creating a living room for all seasons.
1. Create A Focal Point With A Fire Place
Having a fireplace will not only create a beautiful focal point in your home, but it will also add warmth with the use of inset electric fires.
The top of your fireplace can be good for placing a few well-curated personal ornaments that add a touch of personality to the room.
2. Use Tall Potted Plants
If you have spaces between furniture, dress the room with potted plants. Bringing a bit of nature into your living room will help to make the space much more relaxing.
Use strategically placed taller potted plants around the edges of the room. Play with the height of your plants to make the room appear more interesting.
3. Paint Your Walls Two-Tone
If you want to create a cozy room that has a warm and comfortable appearance, paint your walls two-tone.
Having a feature wall will make the room more dynamic and interesting.
Pick a wall in the room that stands out as being different to make into your feature wall. For example, if you have a fireplace on a wall, that is a great choice. If one of your walls has a chimney breast on it, that would also look great.
4. Use An Ottoman Instead Of A Coffee Table
Coffee tables are useful, but if you’re someone that has a lot of clutter such as magazines on your coffee table, then it can ruin the whole sense of calm in your room.
Using an ottoman as a coffee table will give you the storage space underneath.
Find an interesting looking ottoman or chest that really adds character to your living room.
5. Let Natural Light in
Natural light is important. Light brings us vitamin D and helps us produce the feelgood hormone; serotonin. It can help those that struggle with seasonal depression.
It is therefore essential that you try and get as much natural light into your room as you can.
This will mean getting rid of heavy curtains that block out the light. Remove any heavy net curtains that break the flow of the light coming in.
You should also look at anything blocking the light outside. Prune bushes and trees that block your window.
6. Add Comfort With Blankets And Throws
Blankets and throws help to really finish off a living room. They are the ultimate soft and cozy furnishing.
Pick blankets that compliment the colour scheme of the room, and ones that you can wrap up in during the winter.
