Nailing Solo Travel Later in Life

09/01/2020

So many people talk about travelling solo when you are young. When you get a little bit older, there seems to be many doors which close to you. This is not the case in the slightest. Whether you travelled extensively when you were younger or you just want to get out and see the world now, there is no reason why you can’t. Here’s how to nail solo travel in later life.

Pick Where You Want to Go

Solo travel later in life can be freeing as it means you can pick where you want to go. You are not constrained by anyone else or the needs of your children. The itinerary of the trip will be entirely up to you.

Will you be off on a cruise with lots of excursions at every port? Are you conducting a massive tour of various cities and sites of interest? Perhaps you might be more inclined to hole up in your own private villa or apartment for a week? No matter what you do, it is entirely up to you.

Get Covered

Travelling can sometimes be dangerous. While it is a breeze most of the time, you do need to make sure that you are always able to protect yourself if some sort of calamity does befall you. Therefore, you need to take out a reasonable travel insurance policy before you head off.

There are many companies which specialise in travel insurance in later life. With their help, you will be able to protect yourself regardless of the activities you will be doing or any pre-existing medical conditions you might have.

Live a Life of Luxury or Limits

No matter if you have a bit more free income to spend on this travel or you just want to save a bit more, there are a thousand and one ways to travel. Youth hostels are a great place to stay in for anyone who wants to be a bit more frugal. Though the name might be off-putting, there are many youth hostels with private rooms which offer something a little calmer than the dorms.

However, travelling first-class is also extremely nice. You might find that solo travel allows you to afford first-class tickets in certain places as you are only paying for one seat. Travelling in first-class on a plane or a train is an opportunity you should not pass up if you are offered the chance.

Push Yourself

Travel can teach us some interesting things about ourselves. It does not matter where we go or what we do, solo travel is great for expanding our horizons. Travelling when you are slightly older can teach you just as many life lessons as if you were travelling when you are younger. Even visiting somewhere you have been many times in your life can begin to teach you something new.

Use your travel as the opportunity to push yourself out of your comfort zone. It could be something as small as trying a new type of food or learning a few words in the local language. Finishing off interactions with a smile and “Thank you!” in someone’s mother tongue can make their day.

Don’t be afraid to see what this world has to offer us! There are so many weird and wonderful things out there to see and you should not let anything hold you back. This is the perfect time for you to get out there and travel the world by yourself! See what is out there now. You are never going to regret taking the plunge and going travelling solo, no matter what age you are.
