As with most things in life, alcohol is perfectly okay when taken in moderation. However, if you have been thinking about giving up, especially if you have noticed the signs of addiction, then consider the following benefits to your life.
#1: You will find yourself on the road to recovery
If alcohol is a problem in your life, then the first step to recovery is stopping drinking. This isn’t easy we know, but your doctor will offer you professional advice, and you might want to consider rehab to help you with the process of giving up. When on the road to recovery, you will experience many other benefits, not least the lack of dependence on a glass of something to get you through the day, as well as the other positives we mention below.
#2: You will prolong your life
Not only does alcohol limit your quality of life, despite the initial buzz when intoxicated, but it also diminishes your life too. As discussed in greater detail in this article, alcohol can lead to life-threatening diseases, such as liver and heart disease, and cancer. And, of course, giving up alcohol will make you more aware of your actions and behavior, meaning you will be less inclined to take life-threatening risks, such as getting in your car after having one too many!
#3: Your overall wellbeing will improve
Regular drinking can reduce the level of serotonin in your brain, and this can lead to feelings of anxiety and depression. Waking up in the morning after binge drinking the night before can leave you with a bad headache, alongside feelings of sluggishness. And prolonged use can lead to memory loss and psychosis. The sooner you give up then, the better. You will feel better in the short-term, and in the long-term, your overall wellbeing will benefit from the lack of alcohol in your bloodstream.
#4: You will look more attractive
Drinking alcohol might give you more confidence when you’re trying to chat somebody up at the bar, but if you drink excessively, your attractiveness level will drop, meaning you are unlikely to turn the heads of anybody unless they are as intoxicated as you are! As we discussed in more detail here, alcohol can dehydrate your skin, bring about weight gain, and make you sweat excessively. Your chances of acquiring a date will be minimal, but as soon as you give up, you will start to see improvements to the way you look, and that will stand you in good stead the next time you’re out on the town.
#5: You will have more money
How much money do you spend on alcohol each week? We are talking about the bottles of wine you buy from the supermarket, and the shots you purchase when you’re on a night out with your friends. Alcohol isn’t cheap, so your bank balance will take a hit, even if you only partake in a little. It will get even worse when you become dependant on alcoholic drinks, as the habit could bring about financial ruin. By giving up then, you will have more money to play with. You could then spend it on something that will benefit and give you greater pleasure in life, instead of on something that (in excess) will slowly kill you!
So, is it time you gave up alcohol? There are many positive benefits in doing so, including the examples we have listed here, so you might definitely want to consider the option, especially if drinking has become more of a habit to you than an occasional tipple.
Take care, and thanks for reading!
