If there’s one thing that being a member of the WI has taught me, it’s that there’s no such thing as being too old for anything at all! I’ve met women of all different ages and backgrounds through my time in the WI and it has totally smashed any subconscious views I may have had about what is a respectable age to do things at.
It used to be that people, and women in particular, were expected to follow a certain path through life. We’d go to school, leave with some exams, get a “nice little job”, find a boyfriend, be courted for a while, get married, give up work, have children and then be a stay at home housewife. Thank goodness those expectations have vanished. I’ve certainly not followed that path through life and I’m unlikely to start being conventional now.
I spent the weekend after turning 40 skinny dipping with a group of women who were all older than me. It was one of the most liberating experiences of my life and talking to some of the ladies taking part I got the impression that this wasn’t the first time they’d done something like this. And it was also unlikely to be the last time!
As we celebrate 100 years of women getting the vote there is also so much more for women to celebrate in life. Not only are women working in fields that they could never have dreamed of before, but we also have a whole new level of independence too. Women no longer worry about what is expected of them by others. We’re quite capable of making our own minds up about things and doing what we want to do. As long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else in the process then I’m a firm believer in them getting on and enjoying life!
That conventional path may not be followed any more, but it can still be a bit of a minefield when it comes to creating your own path through life and what you want to do when. For many women they find themselves reaching certain milestones and not necessarily being at a position in life that they had imagined. It may be that they married when younger and that marriage has ended for some reason. Or it could be that they chose to concentrate on their career or hobbies rather than find a partner. Maybe they concentrated on their children and now that they’re flown the nest they are looking at putting their own happiness first. Whatever the reason for their position there are so many options available to them.
Whatever age you may be you definitely shouldn’t think that your dating days are behind you. There are plenty of free senior dating sites over 60 available on the internet that cater for people of all different backgrounds. It may be that you’re someone looking to find your soulmate, or you may be wanting companionship and someone to watch TV with in the evenings. Maybe you’re more of a daredevil and want someone to have some excitement with as you try new things together. Or maybe you’re wanting to dust off your passport and have travel buddy to explore the world with.
For many women of this age the dating world has changed beyond all recognition since they first entered it. The key message though is not to be scared in any way. Just remember that it’s the same for everyone your age. You can’t be expected to be a master at something the first time, so just take your time and enjoy yourself. You might not find the partner of your dreams straight away, but you can make sure you have some fun in the process. Try to find someone that you click with. That way if things develop into a romantic relationship – fantastic. If they don’t, and you decide they’re not the one for you, then hopefully you can remain friends.
Of course, depending on what you’re after it may not be that your choice of partner is someone your own age. Some women find that they want to meet a younger man, and so they go searching for older cougars near me. It might be that they want a physical relationship with someone younger. Or possibly just a friendship. Whichever your choice there are plenty of suitable candidates for them to choose from on sites like this one.
Just remember that as women age is absolutely no barrier at all in getting what (or who) we want in life!
