We’ve reviewed a few Margaret Wise Brown books here on Being Mrs C over the last couple of years (The Diggers and Good Night Little One) and I still find myself amazed at just how many books she wrote. When I first discovered her classic Goodnight Moon it was only after searching on google in the middle of the night for books suitable for a baby as I was having one of those sleep deprived panics that I wasn’t reading Little Miss C bedtime stories enough. How things have changed!
The latest Margaret Wise Brown offering that has arrived to review from Parragon is The Good Little Bad Little Pig – a title that any parent will tell you is exactly the sort of thing that a young child would come up with. And that is exactly what has happened in this story. Peter wants a pig for a pet. A perfect little pig. Not a bad little pig and not a good little pig, but a good little bad little pig. Peter’s mother helps him write a letter to the farmer asking for just that the farmer chose the little pig that he thought matched what Peter had asked for. Then we get to see what Peter and his family think of the Good Little Bad Little Pig.
Little Miss C and Master C really seemed to enjoy this book. Both of them love pigs and the whole good / bad behaviour was one that strangely they could both relate to rather (too) well! The illustrations in the book (by Loretta Schauer) are very cute and really appealed to the children as they loved seeing what the Little Pig was up to next in them.
Once again this is a wonderful story by the amazing Margaret Wise Brown and it’s lovely seeing it brought up to date with some wonderful modern illustrations.
