The start may have been slow – 75 minutes after the published start time we finally crossed the start line! – but we did it and we had a ball. The Color Run London 2014 can most definitely be classed as well and truly done on life’s list.
Five km round the streets of Wembley in north London on a very hot Sunday afternoon, and every kilometre marker we passed resulted in another colour of paint being thrown at us.
In the colour zones it all went a bit mad. Not only were there official paint throwers, but runners were scooping up handfuls of paint from the road and throwing it around. Some people were even lying on the road in the paint making paint angels too! It was quite simply one of the most random ways I’ve ever spent a Sunday afternoon.
As for the running, well, this was most definitely not a race where people paid much attention to how quickly they got across the finish line. It was a time for people to have fun and get covered in paint. We ran some of it, Chris and her daughter even skipped some of it, but we also walked and soaked up everything going on around us.
Alongside us were people of every age, shape and size. We saw people pushing their child in a shopping trolley, some guys enjoying a can of lager as we waited for the start, small children scooting round, babies and toddlers in buggies or even toddling around the course, people walking, people jogging, and some who looked like serious runner-types. It was just a party atmosphere though all the way round.
Now I’m home my legs do indeed ache somewhat more than I expected them too, and it was rather hard work to get all the blue paint off in the shower, but it was a fantastic event to take part in. And I’m so pleased to have had Chris and her daughter at my side as I did so.
Now to stretch those muscles, get back to my training and think about next Sunday’s slightly more serious 5k race. Don’t forget that it’s not too late to sponsor me!

Loving all the selfies!! That is crazy!! We got on the tram with people who had done a colour run in Manchester last year and they were filthy – but definitely a great way to make a 5k run pretty epic!!xx

If ever I decide to race, this has to be the one I join in with. The thought of lobbing paint at people while you run sounds like so much fun and what I believe something like that should be like. So glad you had a great time and good luck for your big 5k!
