After looking at Saints in last week's Ladybird Tuesday we're sticking with the religious theme this week with What to look for Inside a Church from series 649, Bible Stories.
Earlier today I finally made time to look at a little brochure that came with the April edition Country Living magazine – Reclaim the Weekend, 50 simple things to make, do and discover. This lovely little booklet has some lovely simple ideas in there and on which jumped out at me was number 16, visit a church. With antique pews, amazing stone masonry, beautiful stained glass and peace and quiet churches can be a great tonic after a busy week.
If you actually want to learn about what you're looking at then this book is a perfect starting point. It describes all the key parts of the church – from the altar to the pulpit, from the organ to alms boxes, and loads of other things inbetween. I might be OK on the basics of what you find in a church, but reading this I'm realising that there's plenty that I don't know.
So much of what you find in a church can be determined by historical events, and in particular local historical events. Therefore understanding the pieces and their role within the church can help you appreciate them even more.
I'll certainly be having a much more informed look around the next time I'm in church.
If you have a collection of old Ladybird books then please feel free to join in with Ladybird Tuesday. There are no formal rules to follow, just leave a link to any post you write in the comments below and if you're feeling kind link back to my Ladybird Tuesday category here on Being Mrs C. Thanks!
