I'm always excited when a new Play Patrol package arrives from Bigjigs and the latest one looked like it was perfect. For Little Miss C they'd included their Weaving Loom and the French Knitting kit. With a crafty mum it looked like these couldn't have been chosen better as LMC is always wanting to do knitting, sewing or just "making with wool" with me.
We started off with the Weaving Loom as I thought that the larger size would make it a bit easier for her to use – after all she is only three and a half and the loom has a recommended age of 5+ on it.
To see how to use the loom take a look at this video that I've put together.
You'll notice that the video is entirely me using the loom and the reason for this was that I just found that it was too fiddly for LMC to do on her own. It required someone to have a bit more understanding about what they were doing and why and she just doesn't have that yet. Would she have it in a year and a half's time? Maybe, but to be totally honest there were a few bigger issues with the loom that I pointed out in the video that I think need to be addressed first.
It's lovely to see toys recreating old crafts like this being reintroduced, but the Weaving Loom just didn't quite hit the spot in the way that I thought it would. There are a few small modifications (deeper grooves on the loom itself, more yarn) that would make it so much better though.
Overall though I'm afraid this was a bit disappointing compared to what I was hoping for.
Disclaimer: We were sent the Bigjigs Weaving Loom to review as part of our role as Bigjigs Play Patrol Agents.
