Amazingly the hot spell here in the UK seems to be continuing, and to be honest when the weather's as hot as it has been, sitting with a hot laptop on your knee isn't exactly fun. I'm sure I'm not the only blogger who has spending time away from their keyboard to make the most of the weather.
Last Monday we decided that it was time to make a dash for the coast from our inland home in St Albans so we bundled the kids into the car and headed north to Hunstanton for the day. It's a 200 mile round trip and on the way there the traffic around Cambridge did make me wonder if it was going to be worth it.
Luckily some sort of divine inspiration at Ely Cathedral, in the form of the biggest piece of chocolate cake I've ever seen, helped to show me that it was most definitely going to be worth all the effort!
As it turns out a day on the beach was exactly what we all needed, even if the sandwiches did end up full of sand. Little Miss C had a fantastic time paddling in the sea for the first time, as well as exploring rockpools and collecting shells with her daddy.
For Master C this was his first ever trip to the beach, and despite being a bit wary of the sandpit at home he had an absolute ball. He also seemed particularly fond of trying to eat as much sand as possible!
The weather was swelteringly hot so we popped into the local Sea Life Sanctury to help us get some shade for Master C's nap time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was a bit pricey, but lots to see and as we were there right at the end of the day we also ended up being the only customers in the whole place!
So after hours on the beach in the heat, time in the sea, a picnic, a visit to the SeaLife centre, a trip to the fun-fair (including LMC's first ride at one) and tea out in a local pub, you really would have thought that both children would have slept on the journey home wouldn't you? Especially since we didn't leave there until the time that they normally go to bed. But no. Both children wide awake for the full two and a half hour car journey! They've obviously got more energy than we realised, and much more than we did.
So, if you're wondering why things have been a bit slow here on the blog, this is my excuse.
