Take a look at the above photograph of my bedside cabinet. Notice anything strange about my bedtime reading? or more accurately where the books themselves are? This wonderful invisible bookshelf was a Christmas gift from the lovely Mr C. Pure genius and keeps me safe from the danger of a perilously high to-read pile right next to my head, which is how things have previously ended up!
It felt slightly strange last night to welcome in the new year with only a half glass of champagne. I'm not one for going out and painting the town red, especially on New Year's Eve when everywhere is stupidly busy and expensive, but Mr C and I have normally enjoyed quite a few glasses of something nice to toast the end of one year and the beginning of another. It was also strange to think about how different 2010 is likely to be compared to 2009. In about five months time there will hopefully be a third person living with us. Another mouth to feed. A little bundle of joy on which to pour love and attention. One thing that is very obvious is that our lives will change forever when that day comes.
There's a huge amount to do between now and June though and that brings me to my one and only new year's resolution for 2010 – to actually do things. I seem to spend so much of my time thinking, talking and writing about what I want to do. Actually doing it all can be a different matter though. In 2010 I'm going to concentrate on the doing, whilst I still have time to do so. Number one on the list has to be doing the various things around the house whilst only two of us live here. The first (tester) paint pots were opened yesterday and more will be before the weekend's out. We've got two weeks before a new carpet is delivered for the front room, so that's another deadline for us to work towards to ensure things are actually done!
Hope you all have a productive 2010 with lots of doing!

I always found being pregnant extremely galvanising, nesting and all that. Before we had our first, when we both worked round the clock we had a house painted in calm and relaxing colours. When I was at home a lot I found them very boring and bought bright cushions and painted walls yellow!
Don’t think it all has to be done before…enjoy this experience as well.

I think you will find the time between now and June very productive, extremely satisfying and enjoyable and you will be very happy with what you have achieved by the time baby C arrives……
Wishing you a Very Happy New Year!
With Love, Jane xxx

Thank you for the kind words everyone!
One thing I am finding is that I have lots of plans for what I want to do with the house. The only problem is the actual doing as sadly lots of my plans / aspirations require physical activity that I’m not currently capable of. It looks like I’m going to have to be very nice to Mr C to help put my plans into action and do some doing!
