When traveling round New Zealand earlier this year Mr C and I discovered a fantastic soft drink there that provided a level of refreshment that couldn’t be matched by anything else and became very much the drink of our trip (despite all the fantastic local wine).
Bundaberg’s Lemon, Lime and Bitters provided a fantastically refreshing drink that was much needed after a day of driving around in our campervan. An Australian drink, we knew that we’d have to find some way of recreating it for the British summer.
Upon returning to the UK we did find that our local Waitrose did stock bottles, but at £1.19 a bottle a cheaper alternative was sought. Luckily the internet came up trumps once again!
As the name suggests the three main ingredients are lemon, lime and bitters, although not quite as simply as the below photograph suggests.
Angostura Bitters are the main ingredient and the addition of lime cordial and lemonade (plus a couple of ice cubes) makes this drink complete. A few dashes of the bitters should be added to a glass of ice and swilled around the glass. A slug of lime cordial should then be added and the glass topped up with lemonade (leaving some space for a frothy head to build up as you pour it in).
The final result – an amazingly refreshing drink that perfectly suits a hot lazy summer day like today!
